Passion might be overrated

I’m speculating. Passion might have two sides: one that’s loved by life coaches and overused by marketing professionals. The other that's a vortex for drama. Like mortality, we think we know what it means, but we really don’t until after we figure out what the hell happened.

I admire friends who live their lives with lots of foresight and vision and purpose. These self-assured men and women make goals and take the long view and see passion as somewhat of an indulgence. Lucky if you have it, but too much could lead to ruin.

I learned this after my second marriage was a disaster and my daughter began looking at me with her millennial “whaaaat are you doing?” face. Meanwhile, my 87-year-old father was suffering from what he called A - G - E.
